Taking Charge – The Image Igloo
In a few days, I am going to post my New Years Resolutions like everyone else will, but I want to talk about one part of it. Lately, I have taken charge of my websites. First, I started with my forums as I posted about the Future of my Forums where I worked on the forums myself. Now, I basically finished my image hosting site, The Image Igloo (logo pending). Before hand, I’ve always had others do things for me. I’ve had people do the skins, the coding, the modifications, the logos (well actually they still do them because I love their work), and everything else.
Don’t get me wrong. I still run all my sites myself (besides my moderating team on The Best Forum Ever). All I’ve been doing is asking friends to do things for me as I’ve never known how to do it I am a little bit lazy. It is a lot of work – all of it. Plus I am not quite familiar with some of it.
XenForo was the first time I actually skinned a website. I haven’t shown it to the public yet, as I am waiting for it to come out of beta, but close friends and premium members to see it. I’ve gotten quite a lot of praise for it and I am quite happy.
Since I’ve done the XenForo styling, I decided to take my newly learned skills and try it with an Image Hosting script. The reason I am doing this is for multiple reasons:
- I don’t want to rely on others anymore.
- The time spent waiting for something that isn’t coming is ridiculous.
- It is actually quite easy. If you know HTML and CSS, it is beyond easy. PHP isn’t really needed unless you are doing a lot of extra stuff.
- Help is always there. Google is a great resource, twitter is another fantastic resource, friends are beyond amazing. I know that King Kovifor hates my stupid questions, but he has saved my butt multiple times. He not only shows me how he did it, but because he did, I was able to learn from from him and now can answer my own issues (well most of them).
Anyway, my image host was the result of the updates I plan to make on my forum. Currently, I have an image host on The Best Forum Ever. When I plan to upload, I am not bringing the modification with me due to incapability of it on XenForo, but the fact that I do not like it. With that said, The Image Igloo was born. I’d like to thank my friend and active member, Mike (aka Velocity) for coming up with the name and slogan which I love. From there, I google’d like crazy to find a fantastic script. I must have found like 10+ image hosting scripts. Out of those 10, maybe 2 or 3 were kept updated. Out of those three, 2 provided what I wanted. Out of those 2, one was completely in English. Oddly enough, I tried the Spanish one first because it was partly in Spanish. Unfortunately, it was way to hard to theme (at least for me).
Since I finished this, I thought I would show you what I worked with and it shows the progress via pictures.
The Spanish Script (it is a fantastic one, but until the update, it isn’t very ideal for me at least):
Then I completely decided to change scripts abruptly, but I kept the image links that were already established.
Before I chose this, I didn’t realize how amazing this script was and how awesome it truly is despite how ugly it looked. Then, I found this theme for it (actually found the theme before I re-found the script).
Using that as my guide, I’ve made my own theme to compliment the name.
It took a while, but I am very happy with it. I want to thank Nick (aka Hellazz) for making the Eskimo as well as for making (the soon to be as I am writing this) logo. I am very happy with all of this.
I hope this turns out well and willing to change the settings to fit my users need. Check it out: The Image Igloo
This was supposed to be done months ago. It is now done now. I’ve learned a lot from doing this and plan to finish my other sites as according to my New Years Resolutions.
Next is my viral site and to get Bundiez and Steal the Internet live!
Stay tuned for my New Years Resolutions!
Being a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan, I’ve always followed them very closely. Part of following them so closely, I’ve continued to follow Donovan McNabb even though he was traded to our rival, the Washington Redskins. If you have been following the NFL via Sportscenter, you would know the controversy with McNabb being benched and such. Anyway, now McNabb wants to be released from the Redskins. I find this funny for one reason (and not because I am an Eagles fan who has Michael Vicktory), this picture (which I posted originally on my forum):

I don’t know why I didn’t post this earlier, but the Philadelphia Eagles are the NFC EAST Champions due to the loss the Giants received from the Green Bay Packers! Next is to actually watch the Eagles kick the Minnesota Vikings ass on Tuesday because the game was postponed due to the damn blizzard.

They are saying 2 inches per hour.
Update – I didn’t realize this picture auto updates…kind of ruins the post since my point disappeared…
Stupid Aim Spam Bots
So for the past week, I’ve been relaxing and resting myself because lately I have felt rundown. Besides that, I’ve been working on the Bundiez Network website in order to get it ready as well as a client’s site. It is basically done, but I have to finish a few articles before I release it. Although, for the client’s site I just need to fix some of the CSS before it is ready to go live. Anyway, I was going to write another blog post after that, but this is just too dumb to wait to post.
As everyone knows, I have AIM (AOL Instant Messenger if you were born yesterday) and I have 1689 friends on it, so when I tend to get a random message, I tend to not worry. Although, this message appeared to be from a girl asking me to message another girl. Strange as this sounded, this girl told me to message another girl because she wanted to speak with me.
Ok, so this sounds like someone is afraid to speak with a guy, but even over the computer? Sounds extremely fishy, right? Well I was hooked. So, I messaged this supposed girl. I asked her name and it sounded like someone I knew, so I continued talking.
This is where it gets weird. She started talking dirty to me. Nice guy that I am, I politely asked her to stop. Why? I find talking dirty over the internet is weird. I prefer face to face so it can turn into everything else. I started to get suspicious when she continued over and over even though I persistently asked to stop.
Finally, I realized that this person was a spam bot. She It asked me if I can go on this website. Then she asked for my name, address, phone number, height, weight, social security number, favorite food…ok…ok…maybe not ALL of that, but it seemed like it. I was just played by a BOT! I was frustrated. I immediately blocked it.
Unfortunately, I’ve received multiple requests to talk to people after that. ALL BLOCKED. Damn spam bots fool me once, shame on you. Attempt to fool me twice, shame on me.
My advice: Do what I did; just make random comments and finding creative insults to tell them. The more creative, the funnier you are. This is a war against spam. Let’s not lose to the computers!
You will definitely find me watching this from beginning to end. Check out some information on it: Solstice-eclipse overlap first in 456 years
